Few facts are known of Sappho’s life. Born in 612 BC. The principal part of her life was spent on the Greek Island of Lesbos, though she was banished from the Island twice and travelled widely throughout the Greek world. Her poetry gained her fame during her lifetime; it remains one of the great personal legacies in all literature.
